2018 is a successful and eventful year for the company from Allschwil
The story of SKAN began 50 years ago. Back then SKAN was a sheer trading company for hospital- and laboratory equipment. Over the years, SKAN has developed into a know-how company with an employee’s share of more than 70% engineers and has become global market leader in the field of isolator design, cleanroom equipment and decontamination processes for the pharmaceutical industry. This year, the company celebrates its 50th anniversary, counting more than 340 employees in Allschwil only and more than 200 employees in its subsidiaries in the US, Japan, Germany and Stein (Switzerland). Furthermore, SKAN owns shares of companies in Belgium and Italy.
After more than 30 successful years at their current location (Ziegelei area in Allschwil) and because of the constantly growing number of employees, SKAN AG is constructing a new, modern company building. The ground-breaking ceremony took place on October 24th marking the start of this new project. SKAN has consciously decided to stay in the area, not only because they feel connected with the region, but also to continue using the job market advantages of the “Dreiländereck” (tri-border region Germany, France and Switzerland) with its different languages. With this new building in the Bachgraben area of Allschwil new and contemporary work spaces will be created to ensure that SKAN will continue to be recognized as an attractive employer.
Thomas Huber, SKAN CEO on the project: „We believe in a healthy growth of the SKAN group and believe that the new building is the perfect base to keep optimizing our processes. The fact that the ground-breaking ceremony happened in the year of our 50th anniversary shows, that even with 50 years, we still are a young and dynamic company who looks into the future full of confidence and determination.”
Furthermore SKAN will be able to bring all employees located in Allschwil under the same roof again. The shorter distances will make the team work easier, will enhance the efficiency and have a positive impact on the company’s culture. It is a great chance to support and optimize communication processes with the open space offices. The complex will hold an assembly area with a production space of 5000m2. Moreover, there will be space for the company’s own SKAN-Academy, a laboratory and more than 420 office work spaces. SKAN is planning to move to the new headquarters in 2021.
